A massive obstacle stands in the way of making blockchain a true alternative to the Internet on a mass scale: interconnectedness among blockchains. Cosmos (ATOM) was created to answer the challenge. Established (originally under the name Tendermint) in 2014 by Jae Kwon and Ethan Buchman, the Swiss-based network fosters interoperability among blockchains and ease of use for developers, by tethering each blockchain created on the platform to the Cosmos Hub. Cosmos Hub is a proof-of-stake blockchain, that is secured by the Tendermint Byzantine Fault Tolerance mechanism, a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism that synchronizes the network, using the native currency-- ATOM. The maximum supply is not available. The average block time is 6.85 seconds according to Binance.
